Pedestrian and multi-leader tree project
2015–2016 | Sophie Folder, PEAR Consulting | Future Orchards® trial report
This Future Orchards® project investigates pedestrian and multi-leader tree concepts in Tasmania. These systems aim to keep the fruiting canopy accessible from the ground while using multiple leaders to distribute vigour and create a simpler, more uniform fruiting wall.
The project is relevant to orchard redevelopment decisions where growers are seeking systems that combine manageable tree height, good light distribution and improved labour efficiency. It also provides context for later Future Orchards® work on quad-stem and other simplified multi-leader systems.
