Nursery and young tree management

6 August 2020 | Presented by John McDonald, Greenlife Industry Australia | Future Orchards® webinar recording

This webinar recording complements the Future Orchards® presentation on managing nursery tree stock risk. John McDonald discusses what growers should look for when sourcing planting material for long-lived orchard systems, with particular attention to plant health, varietal integrity, structural quality and biosecurity.

The presentation explains the role of the Australian Plant Production Standard and associated nursery risk-management systems. The central message is that a nursery tree is a long-term biological investment: hidden disease, pest, traceability or production-quality problems can carry substantial consequences once a block has been established.

Growers can use the webinar as a checklist for supplier conversations and pre-purchase due diligence. Asking how planting material is verified, monitored and documented helps reduce the likelihood of importing avoidable risk into a new orchard.
