Fruit quality and harvest management

2011-01 | Future Orchards® Business Development Program

A mid-season update in the Future Orchards® fruit-size monitoring series, designed to help growers compare current block performance with expected growth and adjust management where needed.

The series treats fruit diameter as an in-season management signal rather than simply a harvest measurement. Repeated readings from the same representative fruit allow growers to see whether a block is tracking above, below or close to its expected growth curve and then relate that behaviour to crop load, irrigation, nutrition, seasonal conditions and harvest timing.

Used together with later reports in the series, the resource helps build a block history so growers can distinguish normal seasonal variation from a developing crop-load or management issue and make decisions before harvest outcomes are locked in.
