Focus Orchards block data a few mouse clicks away

Future Orchards® Focus Orchards generated a substantial body of block-level production and trial information, and OrchardNet® made that data easier for growers to explore. In this Australian Fruitgrower article, Ross Wilson of AgFirst explains how growers can access and use Focus Orchard information rather than treating trial results as isolated reports.
The Focus Orchard model selected commercial orchards across the major growing regions and used them for technical support, fruit-size monitoring and small applied trials. Data was managed in OrchardNet so growers and advisers could compare performance and follow how blocks responded to different management approaches.
Easy access to block history improves the value of demonstrations because growers can examine the numbers behind what they see in the orchard. Production, monitoring and trial data can be revisited after an orchard walk and compared with an individual grower’s own blocks.
The article reinforces the purpose of the Future Orchards data systems: practical extension is stronger when observations are supported by records that growers can interrogate themselves. The combination of field demonstration and accessible data helps turn local trials into broader industry learning.
