September 2019 | Steve Spark and Karen McCallum, AgFirst | Future Orchards® Focus Orchard trial update

This Western Australian Focus Orchard update brings together several on-orchard demonstrations, including pollination under nets, chloropicrin soil treatment and click pruning. The purpose is to show how applied trials can help growers test new practices under commercial conditions before wider adoption.

The pollination component examines the practical challenges of maintaining effective bee activity under netting. The soil-treatment work addresses replant constraints, while the click-pruning demonstration explores ways of managing tree structure and renewal wood.

By presenting multiple trials from the same region, the update illustrates the Future Orchards® approach of using commercial orchards as learning sites: set up practical comparisons, measure tree or crop response, share observations and refine management decisions over subsequent seasons.
