Australian growers will be able to expand existing or add new plantings of the Western Australian-bred ANABP 01 variety, with Fruit West Cooperative and WA Farm Direct announcing a new tree release.

Fresh from entry into the massive Chinese market and on the back of expanding demand for the apple branded domestically as Bravo® and internationally as Soluna®, WA Farm Direct is keen to hear from growers interested in growing the apple.

It is encouraging grafting this winter to get blocks into production as quickly as possible and is particularly keen to hear from all growers interested in learning more about the variety.

WA Farm Direct Executive Manager Rebecca Blackman said rather than a fixed tree target, future plantings would be managed dynamically.

New tree allocations will be assessed against demand, regional suitability, grower capability and the long-term objective of maintaining premium positioning for both brands.

Supply is reviewed against domestic and export demand forecasts, and geographic diversification plays an important role in reducing seasonal risk and supporting consistent supply over time.

Expressions of interest are now open for new plantings of ANABP 01 from 2028, with early access available through topworking in the 2026 and 2027 seasons (subject to program approval).

Domestic growth, pivotal export phase

WA Farm Direct said Bravo apples now had full national distribution and were continuing to build demand, supported by strong retailer engagement and growing consumer recognition.

  • Production increased by approximately 20 per cent this season and is expected to continue rising as young orchards mature.
  • The grower base has expanded to more than 80 growers nationally, providing a strong platform for future supply growth.
  • Demand remains strong, supported by Bravo’s distinctive colour, flavour and eating quality, and its ability to command premium pricing in a challenging cost environment.

Internationally, Soluna is entering a defining growth phase, with first commercial volumes now in China, growing momentum across Asia and the Middle East, and emerging opportunities in North America.

Rebecca said the international program was committed to balancing export growth with disciplined supply management to protect brand value and grower returns.

“The combination of controlled supply expansion, strong importer partnerships, premium branding and a dual-market strategy alongside Bravo positions the ANABP 01 program to deliver sustainable long-term value for growers while building a globally recognised premium apple brand,” she said.
