APAL and industry updates

In recent news headlines surrounding the federal Budget announcement, the media is reporting that consumers will have to pay more due to the impact of the recent floods, with apples and pears wrapped up in the reported undersupply of locally grown fruit and vegetables.

Notwithstanding the devastating floods in the south-eastern states, consumers can be confident that there is a sufficient supply of apples and pears in the Australian market.

The apple and pear industry has shown remarkable resilience in the face of the recent floods. While the conditions are still extremely wet in some of the key growing regions, the trees are still standing and the orchards are adequately prepared for the season ahead.

We encourage consumers to continue to support local growers by buying apples and pears next time they’re in the fresh produce section of their local supermarket or greengrocer.
