After a two-year COVID-impacted hiatus, the APAL Industry Forum is finally back in-person!

Taking place in Melbourne, APAL’s 2022 Forum is an opportunity for the apple and pear industry to come together and reconnect, exploring the innovations and opportunities that lie ahead.

The Forum will begin with welcome drinks and a BBQ on the evening of Sunday 29 May, followed by a jam-packed full-day program on Monday 30 May.

Register now on Eventbriteplease note there is no online attendance option this year.

This in-person event is an opportunity to gather and look to the future together so we can drive our industry forward.

In 2022, the much-anticipated R&D day will take place later in the year on 8 August, followed by an orchard tour on 9 August. After so much COVID-disruption, the decision to decouple the events has been made to provide interstate attendees with more time and greater confidence to plan their travel.

Hot topics for 2022

The Forum’s impressive speaker line-up will feature insights from industry experts and commentators on such topics as labour solutions, retail trends, consumer expectations and the opportunities that lie ahead for apples and pears. Sessions include:

  • Business advisor, commentator and regular columnist for The Australian newspaper, Bernard Salt AM will unpack the megatrends impacting Australian society, including the green shoots of the COVID-19 recovery, from labour and employment through to shifting consumer expectations.
  • Justin Smith, APAL Industry Services Manager, will provide an update on the consumer quality testing project and outline what’s in store for Future Orchards®.
  • Brand management in a competitive market, exploring retail trends and what they mean for the fresh produce category, plus the role of packaging in a successful product launch.
  • An exploration of emerging agtech solutions, and how industry can take advantage of greater automation, machine learning and precision robotics to improve productivity, quality and overcome labour challenges.
  • A focus on the labour challenges, with an update on the progress of the Ag Visa and how to make the Pacific Australia Mobility Scheme (PALM) work for your business.

Over the course of the day, we will also present the APAL Awards for Excellence, recognising the top performers and lifetime contributors to our industry.

Come join us, share knowledge, reconnect and celebrate at the APAL Forum.
