Prioritising good biosecurity practices and monitoring for pests and diseases is essential in any orchard.

For apple and pear growers who export their fruit it is particularly important to manage pests and diseases of trade significance. Interstate and international trading partners may close access to markets if pest monitoring, management and record-keeping is not undertaken in compliance with trade agreements.

To assist crop monitors to accurately identify pests and diseases, 14 new factsheets have been developed. These include:

  • apple brown rot
  • codling moth
  • European canker
  • Fuller’s rose weevil
  • light brown apple month
  • Mediterranean fruit fly
  • native budworm
  • plague thrips
  • privet mite
  • Queensland fruit fly
  • scale
  • scarlet mealybug
  • western flower thrips
  • woolly apple aphid

Developed in partnership with Fruit Growers Tasmania and funded by Hort Innovation through the Apple and Pear Fund, each factsheet provides in-depth insights, covering pest characteristics, life cycles, damage symptoms and control strategies, equipping crop monitors with practical resources for improved pest management.

The factsheets are available to download from the Export Hub, within the Member Hub.
