June 2013 | Prepared by AgFirst | Future Orchards® OrchardNet training

Part 2 of the Future Orchards® OrchardNet training focuses on the financial information needed to connect orchard production with business performance. Recording physical yield alone does not show whether a block is profitable; returns and costs need to be considered alongside production.

OrchardNet provides a structure for storing block-level financial information so growers can compare the value generated by different varieties and orchard areas. When production, packout, price and expenditure are viewed together, the reasons for differences in block profitability become easier to identify.

The financial functions support both internal review and benchmarking. Growers can use historical results to test redevelopment decisions, identify blocks requiring improvement and understand whether higher costs are being justified by higher marketable production or returns.

The training reinforces a recurring Future Orchards® message: good orchard decisions depend on integrating technical and financial information. The most productive block is not automatically the most profitable, and OrchardNet helps make that distinction visible.
