APAL and industry updates

APAL’s Future Orchards® program continues in November, with Orchard Walks taking place across the country as well as an online National Orchard Talk.

The schedule kicks off on 12 November with a Tasmanian Orchard Walk, followed by onsite walks in Orange and Batlow in NSW, Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland and Northern and Southern Victoria.

The National Orchard Talk with Craig Hornblow (AgFirst) and Nic Finger (Fruit Help) on 18 November will drill down on what data to collect, how to collect it and how best to use it to help with hand thinning, fruit sizing, water and nutrition inputs to achieve fruit quality outcomes. The Orchard Talk includes a live Q&A session.

APAL’s Technical Manager Rosalie Daniel said this program of events would provide timely guidance for the season ahead, with presentations of both national and local relevance.

“The onsite walks will feature updates on local research and discussions of region-specific issues and opportunities,” Rose said.

“We also know that apple and pear growers have a lot to gain from gathering and using valuable orchard data, and the online Orchard Talk will provide practical and actionable information on best practice.”

Stay tuned for further updates and registration details on the event page.

Participants of the Future Orchards Orchard Walks will be required to comply with local and state COVID-19 public health requirements. Read more.
