Coming up for the Goulburn Valley, APAL in partnership with Fruit Growers Victoria is pleased to announce the next Pear Masterclass planned as part of the Future Orchards® project.
This upcoming round will focus on orchard practices and crop regulation to increase production and improve pear quality.
Speakers will include Dr Ian Goodwin, Marcel Veens, Russell Fox, and Dr Lexie McClymont.
Dr Ian Goodwin from Agriculture Victoria is the lead researcher for the Profitable Pears project based in Tatura, a program researching management topics for maximising productivity of red blush pears. Ian will present on techniques to improve colour development on red blush pears.
Speaking on orchard management Dr Lexie McClymont from Agriculture Victoria will discuss the effects of rootstock, tree density and training system on crop load.
Russell Fox from IK Caldwell who is also one of the independent experts on OzApplePear IPDM platform, will be providing an integrated pest and disease management update.
An Australian based tree fruit production advisor, Marcel Veens supports growers with sound practical advice on all aspects of orchard management. Marcel will present on control steps and practices to manage fruit.
This will be run over half a day activity commencing with presentations followed by orchard walks at two sites.
