Click pruning demonstration in pears
29 July 2016 | Marcel Veens, Horticultural Consultant | Future Orchards® Pear Masterclass
This video records Marcel Veens demonstrating click pruning in pears during the Future Orchards® Pear Masterclass held at Tatura and Calimna Orchard, Ardmona, in July 2016.
Click pruning is a structured pruning approach used to renew fruiting wood and keep the canopy narrow, simple and productive. The demonstration shows the technique in a commercial pear setting, making it useful for growers who want to understand where cuts are placed and how replacement fruiting wood is encouraged.
The method should be considered alongside cultivar behaviour, tree vigour, rootstock and the orchard’s training system. Its value comes from maintaining manageable fruiting units and limiting the development of overly complex or dominant branches.
The video complements the Pear Masterclass presentation material and other demonstrations from the same event, including branch ripping and pear rootstock guidance.
