October 2021 | Pear Masterclass 2021 | Video

This Pear Masterclass session focuses on successful integrated pest management (IPM) in pear orchards. The approach is built around understanding orchard pest pressure and using monitoring to decide when intervention is justified.

IPM aims to combine cultural, biological and chemical tools so that control does not depend on routine broad-spectrum spraying. Preserving beneficial insects and mites is an important part of keeping pest populations below damaging levels and reducing the risk of secondary pest flare-ups.

The session is most useful as part of a whole-orchard management program: identify the pest correctly, monitor trends, understand thresholds or risk periods, and select the least disruptive effective intervention available.

The recording sits within the 2021 Pear Masterclass series and provides a pear-specific example of how integrated management principles can be applied in commercial orchards.
