Nutrient management for yield and fruit quality – video
November 2022 | Presented by Dr Lee Kalcsits, Washington State University | Future Orchards® video
This presentation recording explores nutrient management strategies for achieving both productive yields and high fruit quality. Dr Lee Kalcsits explains how mineral nutrition operates within the wider physiology of the tree, with particular attention to calcium movement, crop demand and the balance between nutrients.
The session is especially relevant to growers managing fruit-quality disorders. Calcium concentration in fruit is influenced by root uptake, water movement, crop load and competition with other cations such as potassium and magnesium, so nutrient decisions need to be made in the context of the whole block rather than from one test result.
The video complements the presentation slides and is useful for orchard managers wanting to connect soil, leaf and fruit testing with practical decisions around nutrient timing, crop load and fruit-quality risk.
