Fruit size monitoring using OrchardNet®
February 2012 | Presented by AgFirst | Future Orchards® webinar
Fruit size monitoring gives growers an objective way to compare current fruit growth with target trajectories and historical block performance. This Future Orchards® webinar demonstrates how OrchardNet® can be used to record regular fruit measurements, compare growth between blocks and regions, and forecast likely harvest size.
The core principle is that fruit size should be monitored through the season rather than assessed only close to harvest. Repeated measurements help identify whether a block is tracking normally or beginning to fall behind. That information can then be considered alongside crop load, irrigation, weather, nutrition and other orchard factors that influence growth rate.
OrchardNet® provides a practical structure for turning field measurements into management information. By comparing current measurements with historical or district growth curves, growers can identify unusual slowdowns early enough to investigate causes and, where possible, respond with crop-load adjustment, irrigation or other management changes.
The webinar is useful for growers who want to move fruit-sizing decisions away from visual estimation and toward consistent measurement, benchmarking and forecasting.
