Future Orchards 2012 website
March 2007 | Future Orchards® 2012 presentation
This presentation introduces the Future Orchards 2012 website and the block information available to growers through the project. The online system was built to support the program’s orchard walks by allowing participants to revisit monitored block data and compare orchard performance between regions and production systems.
Block searches could include factors such as variety, rootstock, planting density, tree age and whether the site was a replant. The database also displayed production and profitability information where available, providing a practical way to compare commercial blocks rather than relying on anecdotal performance.
The website was part of a broader effort to make measurement central to orchard improvement. By combining field demonstrations with accessible data, Future Orchards encouraged growers to ask why some blocks performed better and whether the same principles could be applied in their own businesses.
The resource is an early example of the digital benchmarking approach that later developed into OrchardNet®, where orchard history, forecasts, production and financial metrics could be managed in a more comprehensive system.
