Artificial spur extinction demonstration
September 2016 | Presented by Sally Bound | Future Orchards® video demonstration
This Future Orchards® demonstration shows the practical application of Artificial Spur Extinction (ASE), a technique that controls potential crop load by removing surplus flower buds before bloom.
ASE uses the number and position of fruiting spurs to match reproductive load with the capacity of each branch. The aim is to improve fruit uniformity and quality, simplify later thinning and reduce the risk that an excessive crop suppresses return bloom.
The video complements Sally Bound’s research on precision crop-load management without chemicals and is useful for growers wanting to see how a bud-extinction strategy is applied in the orchard rather than only reading the technical description.
