Growers are encouraged to contribute to the development of an export strategy for apples and pears.

The Australian Government Department of Agriculture has commissioned the preparation of export strategies across a range of horticulture industries, including apples and pears. The strategies will focus the Department’s efforts on gaining access to new markets and improving existing access. The strategies will also be very useful for deciding where our limited R&D and marketing levies will be best spent.

Three consultants will be doing the work: Scott Williams, Russell Pattinson and Chris Wilcox. APAL is participating actively in the project.

APAL, the Department of Agriculture and the consultants would welcome input to the project from individuals or organisations in the apple and pear industry. If you have a view on what export markets the industry should pursue, and why, and you would like to contribute, please contact Scott Williams on 0413 059190 or shw@scottwconsulting.com.

Alternatively, contact Claire Fitchett at APAL (cfitchett@apal.org.au, 03 9329 3511).
