SIAP meets to consider SA hail response

The apple and pear Strategic Investment Advisory Panel (SIAP) which advises Hort Innovation on apple and pear levy investment met in mid December to review South Australian hail impact assessments and consider a proposed domestic marketing concept.

The focus of the extraordinary teleconference meeting was to provide a quick response to the completed assessment of the hail impact on the 2018 Adelaide Hills apple and pear crop in view of the forthcoming harvest.

Hort Innovation Fund Manager Stuart Burgess updated SIAP members in attendance on the levy forecasts for apple and pear marketing and the current marketing projects and available funds.

Monique Emmi, Marketing Lead, Hort Innovation and newly-appointed Apple and Pear Marketing Fund Manager Olivia Grey presented the following marketing and trade marketing concepts for SIAP advice:

  • Pear export promotion 2018
  • Marketing campaign for hail damaged apples and pears.

Next steps:

The apple and pear SIAP has made their recommendations to Hort Innovation and Hort Innovation has advised that Apple and Pear Fund Marketing Manager Olivia Grey will now work with this advice to progress supported investments.

The next apple and pear SIAP meeting is planned for 6-7 March, 2018 in Sydney.
