It’s time to book in your diaries the 2014 orchard walks of the Future Orchards® team as they hit the road to ‘share knowledge and increase profitability’ as they present some of the stunning outcomes of the Focus Orchard program over the last two years.

“With two Focus Orchards in each of the eight growing regions of Australia, the Future Orchards program has facilitated applied trials, farm business planning and generated nearly 20 case studies from these orchards,” says Jesse Reader, AgFirst (and former Technical Manager at APAL).

Participants attending in June can expect to hear about key trial outcomes from the local Front Line Advisor, AgFirst representatives Craig Hornblow and Ross Wilson and special Focus Orchard guests Jason Shields of Plunkett Orchards and Peter Sanders of Sanders Orchards.

“The inclusion of Jason Shields into the northern loop is very exciting with Jason bringing along his intimate cost of production knowledge, tree manipulation skills and eye for detail,” says Jesse.

“Not to be outshone, Peter Sanders will present to the masses on the Southern Loop in the way only Peter can – frank, level-headed and thought provoking. Peter is a real ‘green thumb’ and will be right at home in the orchards of southern Australia where he will impart his knowledge to the group.”

The Future Orchards 2014 orchard walks are a great opportunity for the industry at large to come together to discuss other industry issues like winter pruning, planting and reflect on the outcomes of the season just gone.
