What impact could native plant species have on pests and beneficial insects in the orchard?

Greg Lefoe (Senior Research Scientist, AgVic) is the project leader for the PIPS3 Program Strengthening cultural and biological management of pests and diseases in apple and pear orchards project (AP19002).

One of the project aims is to improve IPDM understanding and practice, and so the trial sites at Tatura SmartFarm and Tasmania will identify the potential benefits that native plant species can offer orchards.

In this video, Greg discusses how pests and beneficial insects are monitored at the Tatura SmartFarm site, including trapping, counting, and sweep netting undertaken at various times in the season.
