PMA A-NZ Food Safety: Managing the Risk (Perth)
A session for fresh produce professionals highlighting the critical importance of food safety for the whole supply chain.
Ensuring the safety of fresh vegetables, fruit, and fresh-cut products continues to be a major challenge. These foods are often consumed raw and have been responsible for large outbreaks of foodborne illness.
Pathogens may contaminate produce anywhere along the farm-to-plate continuum. In fact, contamination may occur at any stage during the production, harvest, grading and packing, marketing, and transportation of fresh produce.
The program will be presented by Deon Mahoney (Head of Food Safety, PMA A-NZ) and will outline the hazards, where they arise along the chain, and measures to mitigate the risk. The program will include case studies of recent outbreaks and the learnings from these incidents.
Key areas to be covered are:
- Food safety hazards and current research activities in the fresh produce sector
- Best practice for preventing and managing hazards
- Regulatory requirements and developments
- Measuring and controlling pathogens in fresh produce
