The Minister for Agriculture Jaala Pulford has announced a series of grants, an Artisanal Sector Roadmap, and the launch of an online portal for artisan producers.

Stage one grants support artisan producers to improve productivity or grow their business through small-scale investments in equipment, skills, and services. Stage one grants are open now until 31 January 2019.

Stage two grants will support larger-scale projects that may involve individual businesses or community-based initiatives for the sector. Stage two grants will open for applications in the first half of 2019.

The Artisanal Sector Roadmap provides a framework for a state-wide approach to collectively support and grow Victoria’s artisanal sector. It provides a definition for the artisanal sector in Victoria, a vision for the sector, and identifies four key actions to support sector growth. These actions are:

  • Promoting the sector’s vibrant diversity
  • Building sector capabilities
  • Facilitating access to government services and support
  • Supporting sector-led development

The portal (found here) provides a single point of contact for artisan producers to navigate regulatory requirements and access government information, services, and biosecurity support. Visitors to the portal can provide feedback on what other information and links they’d like to see on the portal as it grows.
