How to Nominate

Nominations open in January and anyone working in or contributing to the progress of the apple and pear industry is eligible.

Each year APAL in partnership with the Nominations Committee, review the awards categories to ensure they remain relevant to our industry. The categories are confirmed prior to the call for nominations in January each year. The most recent categories are:

Who is eligible 

Nominations are open to anyone working in or contributing to the progress of the apple and pear industry.

Nomination deadlines 

Nominations open in January and close in April each year.  

The Award recipients are announced at the APAL annual Awards for Excellence dinner in June each year.  

Selection Process 

All nominations are considered by the Awards Committee which includes representatives from apple and pear industry associations in each of the growing regions and APAL. The Committee’s recommendations are then considered by the Board of APAL in determining the Award recipients. 

Presentation of Awards 

Award recipients are invited to the annual APAL Awards for Excellence dinner at which their award is presented, and their achievements shared and celebrated with the apple and pear industry.  

The recipient and runner-up of the award categories (except Lifetime Achievement) are also nominated on behalf of the apple and pear industry into the national Hort Connections awards that are announced each June.

Frequently asked questions:  

Can I nominate myself? 

Yes, you can self-nominate. 

Can I nominate an individual across multiple categories? 

Yes, you can nominate an individual for multiple categories if they meet the selection criteria. 

Can I receive an award more than once? 

Yes, you can receive an award in the same category more than once, however your contribution needs to be significantly different to why you may have received it in the past.  

Can I nominate someone the next year if they are unsuccessful the first time? 

We encourage individuals who have nominated in the past, who were unsuccessful to renominate.

What do the Award recipients receive? 

Award trophy and a prize to the value of $1,000.
