Aussie Apples sponsored Melbourne’s Run for the Kids event on 20 March 2016 by supplying fresh apples to competitors.
Every year the Run for the Kids event is held to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. This year, for the second time, Aussie Apples was a sponsor which included getting prominent coverage before the event in event promotions and having a major presence during the event in the ‘recovery zone’ where runners finished the race.
Hort Innovation’s Marketing Manager for Apples and Pears, Lisa Troy, was there with four support workers to ensure every one of the 30,000 plus runners was given an apple.
“This is the second year that Aussie Apples has been a principal sponsor of Run for the Kids in Melbourne,” says Lisa. “It is a great way to get apples into the hands of consumers and to remind them to eat apples more often.
“With around 30,000 participants, including famous faces such as Nova breakfast host Jonathan Brown, Seven News presenter Jacqui Felgate and Australian Labor leader Bill Shorten, we were able to reach a large number of consumers.”
“Our Aussie Apples mascot ‘Mr Crunch’ was also present and was a huge hit with the crowd as he congratulated finishers and handed out apples.”
Lisa explained that many of the enthusiastic participants wanted to know what type of apples they were eating and where they had come from. They also wanted to know where they could buy them.
Thanks to Victoria’s Nine Mile Fresh who provided 14 bins of locally grown apples for the event.
This activity was funded by Horticulture Innovation Australia Ltd using the apple and pear industry marketing levy funds from growers.
